July 15 VBS = Very Busy Schedules!!Ok, so VBS actually stands for Vacation Bible School, but this week it was Very Busy Schedules!! Whew! I am one wiped out Mommy, but this was a very rewarding week. Last week both girls went to VBS at our church and we took our neighbor boy, Grant, who was in Hannah's kindergarten class. Oh, they had a ball...and Emily learned to say her first Scripture verses: 1 Peter 5:7 and Psalm 32:8. She is stinking cute...I need to get her on video saying them. Hannah said all 5 of her memory verses this week, but as they had a new one every day, she can't remember them now to save her life! This actually was her first year with the big kids (not the preschoolers) so she was one of the little ones. I was so proud of her! As a reward the leaders got put into a dunk tank and the kids that said all their verses earned a shot! Hannah dunked her friend's mommy...she was so excited!! Here are some pictures of the kids on the their first day and also during their worship times.
My week consisted of shuttling the kids to and from VBS, securing babysitters and shuttling them, teaching lessons and planning for our yearly recital, and my usual work in the church office. However in the midst of all that, my boss (the worship arts pastor) was preparing a sermon he was to give this morning and was delegating a lot to me so he could focus on his preparation (as he should have). BUT...I was so stressed. I had to work extra hours that I wasn't planning on which left everything else to fall by the wayside. My house was dirty all week, my recital consumed my ENTIRE weekend, and I led worship in church today and was in a skit. It was a very hard week for me. In addition we found out this weekend that Steve's softball team was going to play in the playoffs...3 nights in a row this week!!! AGH!!! Thankfully he was around the rest of the time to take over with the kids and load the dishwasher a time or two!
Today after church we went out for lunch as a family and this evening the girls and I went to ride bikes at the playground and then for ice cream. I was glad to just spend time with them. I feel like I got to reconnect with my loved ones today and I'm so glad! Now tomorrow starts another week...Hannah goes to a summer school program (offered for free by the school district! I'm so glad she'll be spending a few weeks keeping her reading and math skills sharp in preparation for first grade!) and I have to plan another week of worship and lead again next Sunday. AND YA Kids Kamp starts next Sunday and I am leading worship twice a day for that week. If you think of it...pray for me and the fam. Steve is also busy preparing for Kamp and could use your prayers.
In the recital Hannah played Old MacDonald on the piano and sang a duet with me...a song that I co-wrote with a woman from our church. It is a beautiful song about who we are in Christ called, "You Are A Princess." And check out my little princess singing it with her crown on! I am sooooo proud of Hannah. She really is blessed with the natural Rau musical abilities. She can sing anything with great pitch and she is soaking up piano like a sponge!! I bought her new earrings and sandals for the recital (size 1, by the way. On the road to women's sizes. Size 1. Can't believe it...). She felt like a princess!
Thanks for reading all this and I hope God's blessings abound to you this week! July 07 Potty Training Celebration!!!!!!!We had a celebration today...Emily is doing great with her potty training! A few weeks ago I decided I needed to put forth the effort to just keep on her and make potty training the priority. The extra effort paid off and she is almost 100% in control. I say that because she still has accidents when she is involved in an activity and I don't make her go to the bathroom on a regular basis. You can't forget about her yet! But with some concerted effort on the part of the adult in charge, she has got it!! So we promised if she did a good job we'd take her to Chuck E. Cheese. Hannah knows that she benefits from this arrangement too and has been oh so helpful in reminding her sister to go potty!
So last night we spent the night with our friends, the Ernsts, and actually Emily stayed dry all night last night for the first time! Today we went to Chuck E. Cheese and the girls had a great time...so did Mommy and Daddy ~ it was our family fun day after being apart for about 2 weeks in some sort of fashion. Here are some pictures from Emily's big celebration day! We are so proud of her!!!
July 01 FarewellToday was our Pastor David and Joanne's farewell at church. They are leaving Victory to take a leadership position in another district of the Wesleyan Church. It was a beautiful...but emotional service. And it was hard for me to not be able to share it with my husband. I need him emotionally right now. I spoke with several others at church who are going through difficult times right now and my heart is breaking for them. So~big breath~ it really was an emotional day.
I am enjoying the down time at home today! I plan to scrapbook and maybe take a nap. |
